Cloisonné Peonies

An elegant spray of peonies gracing the flowing curves of an oriental vase was the inspiration for this design. Delicate peonies, softly shaded in fine silk and edged in gold, are surrounded by a shimmering geometric pattern bordered by a rich band of gold. Techniques include Silk Shading, Outlining, Couching, Blackwork, Pattern Darning and the use of linear techniques to produce the softly curved lines of the stems and delicate "cloisonné work" around the leaves and petals of the peonies. 8.5" diameter stitched on 24ct white congress cloth. Complete kit includes all threads, drawn canvas and complete instructions.

Gilded Trio

Gilded Trio incorporates the techniques of Canvas and Metal Thread embroidery to produce a design rich in color and texture. Techniques include padding, couching, needleweaving, working with metal threads, laying silk and overstitching the background.  Gilded Trio is worked on 24ct Congress Cloth. Golden Maples

Inspired by the magnificent costumes of the Japanese Noh Theater, a trio of golden maple leaves cascade from the shoulder, highlighting the vibrant colours and pattern forming the body of this miniature kimono. Complete kit includes 24 count Congress cloth, Waterlilies, Japan gold and metallic braid. This design combines geometric patterns with overlaid couching techniques to create a rich, textured effect. Other techniques include manipulating the placement of colour using overdye threads, transferring a pattern to the surface of the background stitches, couching and three-dimensional finishing methods. Finished size 4" x 6".

Kumo Fans

Kumo Fans was inspired by a memorable visit to the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Garden, an exquisite garden set in the heart of Vancouver. Winding through this serene garden were pathways laid in intricate geometric repeat patterns formed from broken pieces of blue and white crockery, many of which were edged in gold. In this contemporary interpretation, the three blue and gold fans are worked on Congress cloth in intricate Blackwork and Laid filling patterns using silk and metallic threads.

Inspired by the beauty and romance of stately and historic homes such as Woodlawn and Mary Todd Lincoln House, Nelly's Sewing Box pay homage to a quite, gentle age when needlework played a prominent role in a lady's household.

This unique sewing box, or framed piece,  combines traditional and innovative techniques found in counted and metal thread embroidery with lustrous silks, metal and metallic threads. The center panel and surrounding borders are lavishly embellished with beads, as are the coordinating accessories which include a needle book and scissors case.

Poinsettia Scrolls

Poinsettia Scrolls is a design rich in the color and texture of the holiday season.   A single red Poinsettia, delicately shaded in Soie d'Alger, is accented with a shimmering center of bullion and gold beads.  A spray of silk holly leaves and tendrils of Jaceron, sprinkled liberally with beads, surrounds the Poinsettia as they curl gracefully over a patterned background worked in gold metallic thread.  Elegant curled scrolls, couched in a rich gold Torsade and a sparkling beaded motif,  form an opulent border around the design.   Techniques include  Couching, Outlining, Beadwork, Pattern Darning and the technique of Soft Shading using crewel embroidery stitches to produce the delicate shaded effects found on the petals and leaves. Finished size 8.5" diameter on 18ct eggshell canvas. Complete kit includes drawn canvas, threads and complete instructions.

The rich borders of silk, metal thread and paillettes bordering a flowing Indian sari was the inspiration for this design. Silk Medley is a miniature sampler composed of a series of decorative bands using a combination of techniques to produce a design rich in color and texture. The luster of Silk Mori and the highly reflective sheen of Silk Serica are enhanced by the metallic braids, paillettes and seed beads used in the bands to produce highly textured patterns. Pulled thread, overstitching and padding are used to compliment the sheen of the silk threads.

Summer Dreams

Create a miniature masterpiece of goldwork in just a few short hours. Begin with a piece of congress cloth with a photo-transferred background image, then add  silk embroidered blades of grass, a sparkling gold work dragonfly, and finish with a textured laid border.
