Ruth's Promise

Delicate bands of Hemstitching separated by narrow inserts of lace and embroidery on an antique camisole was the inspiration for this graceful rolled pillow. Traditional counted thread techniques worked in untraditional fibers form the basis for this cyberclass. Elegant bands of hearts, flowers and open work embroidered in silk and pearls borders a lacy center band of Hardanger and Pattern Darning. Fine silk ribbon, Soie d’Alger, Soie Perlee, pearl braid and seed pearls are used to work the delicate bands of Pulled and Drawn Thread embroidery, Darning patterns and Hemstitching.

This classic white on white design combines a variety of fibers including silk, silk ribbon and metallic threads. Various finishing techniques will also be explored to adapt this design to several styles of pillows or finished as a framed piece.

Splendor

The design for Splendor is a miniature version of Autumn Splendor. This contemporary adaptation uses a combination of silks, metal threads and organza appliqués to create a stunning array of colour and texture.

This cyber workshop will introduce students to exciting and innovative techniques on canvas. Beginning with a stenciled, periwinkle blue Congress cloth created especially for this design, students will create a background composed of narrow stripes and a wide geometric band using a combination of Silk Mori and Silk Bella. Layers of texture and vibrant color are created through the use of organza appliqués, metal thread and surface stitches that combine to form the cascade of pine boughs. The flowing branches, worked in couched Japan gold to create a flow of texture from heavy to light, creating highlights and shadows. 3 Online Sessions.

Five Fan Kimono

Five Fan Kimono is a contemporary interpretation of a traditional Japanese kimono design. Five golden fans appear to float on a background of silk brocade highlighted by rich metal threads and bold geometric patterns. Inspired by the delicate repeat patterns found on Japanese porcelain, each fan is worked in an intricate pattern combining silk and fine metallic threads. The main body of the kimono is worked in both spun and filament silk to produce two separate brocade patterns reminiscent of the woven brocades found in the traditional kimono. Separated by a band of fine laid goldwork, the brocade patterns are overstitched with fine metallic threads to give the illusion of woven fabric and to further embellish the design. 6 Online Sessions

Gabrielle

A golden angel encrusted with beads, metallic threads, ribbons and tassels forms the center point for this workshop in mixed-media canvas embroidery. Victorian beadwork, ribbon embroidery and metal thread embroidery combine with traditional canvas techniques to create an elegant design rich in texture and sparkling highlights. In this workshop, students will chose from a number of project variations including a framed piece, double sided ornament, evening bag or Christmas stocking.

In this workshop, students will select their own setting for Gabrielle. She can be framed or grace a Christmas tree as a double-sided three-dimensional ornament with a long, flowing tassel. Suspended from a gold cord and fringed with beads, she will add sparkle and elegance when worn as a dazzling neckpiece. By adding simple background techniques, Gabrielle can be transformed into a stunning evening bag or shine as a cuff for an heirloom Christmas stocking.

In this creative setting, students will begin with the same design outline and, through their choice of stitches, fibers, color and finishing technique, end the class with an elegant project that is truly unique. 4 Online Sessions.

Golden Kimono

The simple elegance and rich symbolism of traditional Japanese designs was the inspiration for this contemporary kimono using silk, Japan gold, Torsade and fine gold cords. Golden Kimono combines both traditional and non-traditional canvas techniques. Silk embroidery on canvas, using a combination of spun and filament silk, produces an intricate brocade pattern for the body of the kimono. A vibrant Florentine pattern along the lower edge of the kimono creates the illusion of waves. Padding, shading with fine gold threads, couching, beading, appliqué and needle lace are the techniques used to create the large fan-shaped leaves flowing gracefully throughout the design.
